Whence Grace Comes
Hint: It’s not through perfection
Credit: In writing this, I was influenced by Jeremy Baker’s four-poem cycle in The Process (see below).
Like the “death flash” of an incandescent light bulb
Our heartache often pains most
Right before it finally releases us
-
But even when we are released
The pain doesn’t vanish completely
Similarly, every relationship doesn’t reach closure
-
Healing doesn’t come from obtaining perfect answers
And peace doesn’t come from erasing yourself
(That’s just absence)
-
Grace comes from embracing uncertainty, knowing humanity
From accepting scars, mysteries, and compassion
In the same happy meal

Yes. Exactly. It feels the most intense just before release.
